Muskoka Loft Ladder
THE STORY
The Muskoka loft ladder was designed with our client when he sent us an inspiration picture and asked us if we could make him a ladder just like that. The ladder would be made of ambrosia maple that he was using in his Muskoka cottage, was in the style of a ships ladder and had mong metal handrails that extended above the ladder into the loft. We had never made a ladder like it!
I love when our clients requests push us to learn about new woods and require us to develop new techniques! With the wood being specified as ambrosia (wormy) maple , a wood that we haven’t used before, we had to learn what is was (please read about the ambrosia beetle) and we had to find a supplier. Our client also wanted his ladder made using wood dimensions we had not yet worked with, so we learned new techniques and made new jigs.
The metal handrails that the client specified also pushed us into new territory. We started working with a local red seal welder to fabricate them for us and a local powder coating company to apply a matt black finish.
The Muskoka ladder is now our most popular style of loft ladder, our clients love it!
